NOV 19, 2022
On November 19, 2022, EMEAC hosted a community education webinar on the fight for water as a human right. Guest Speakers included comrades from Mississippi and Michigan: Rukia Lamumba of the People’s Advocacy Institute, Monica Lewis-Patrick of We the People of Detroit, Maureen Taylor of the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization, and Rev. Ed Pinkney of the Benton Harbor Community Water Council.
From infrastructure, to policy changes around water affordability, to contamination regulations, to climate catastrophe and flooding, to building a mass movement against the extractive economics of capitalism, the speakers make a compelling and dynamic case for all organizers, all revolutionaries, all members of community to begin to once see water as the basis not only for biological life but also social and political life.
We fight to reclaim and protect water from the corporate forces who seek to exploit and weaponize it against the masses of our people. Moreover, in recognizing the importance of the fight for the human right to water in the United States and around the world, the speakers call on us strongly to see the connection of our fights, whatever angle we’re approaching from, to understand that we can only win if we struggle together, struggle for each other’s survival, and struggle for the common ground. We work to keep our communities healthy by protecting the water that protects us.
This webinar was recorded and because of many requests from members of our community, we are archiving and sharing the recording for your viewing benefit.
