East Michigan Environmental Action Council (EMEAC) creates schools for environmental justice. Our environmental educators provide extra education in environmental sciences for Detroit public schools and promote environmental justice for young people in educational settings. Such program include gardens and vermicompost at Palmer Park Preparatory Academy, workshops in classrooms across the city on nutrition, gardening, and healthy choices, and resources school garden programs.

Urban Ecologies Day Camp

The first session of EMEAC’s new experimental summer day camp runs July 8-11. The theme is of the camp is of the 4 Elements: WIND.

Young people will learn about wind and air as a resource in our local environment, they’ll make kites, and take a field trip. Young people will also assist with basic, modeled food prep in the food lab and complete two arts and crafts per day. Our young people will also enjoy Yoga/Body Movement on the lawn (mats provided).
